Simulating formal and informal housing market over 25 years

Claus was commissioned by the City of Cape Town to develop credible, scenario-based estimate of residential growth across a wide range of dwelling types, in support of spatial planning and engineering functions.  This work has significantly progressed the City’s baseline data for residential dwelling units and the assumptions underpinning the modelling of these typologies into the future. The functionality of the model and the depth to which it simulates real-world property dynamics across formal and informal housing markets is above what was expected by the City and is highly innovative in its approach. The findings of this work have been presented to City leadership and are playing a meaningful role in shaping long term planning for the City.
